Counseling for Teens

You’ve reached your limit. You’ve lost your sense of balance or maybe even your sense of who you are. It may be an accumulation of the countless stressors involved in parenting that has pushed you over your threshold. It may be an event or a major life change that has caused you to lose that feeling of being on steady ground. Or perhaps it’s something that you have been struggling with for as long as you can remember.

Whatever has brought you to this moment, you’ve decided that it’s time to find a better way to feel. That’s where I come in.

Hi, I’m Lynne Short, and I’m happy you’re here!

I love helping people discover that through accessing their own strengths and learning to show themselves compassion, they can begin to tackle the things that can seem insurmountable.  We can work together to help you find ways for you to cope. I’m willing to bet that in some ways, you have already been coping better than you may realize. And those strengths I already mentioned? I bet you have many you aren’t even aware of.

I believe that just as each of us are unique individuals, there is no one size fits all form of therapy that is effective for everyone. I like to take a holistic approach to learn about you, and then work with you to collaborate to find the best solutions and coping tools to help you achieve a sense of peace and balance. For some clients, that’s using what’s called “Cognitive Behavioral Therapy”, for others I may utilize what’s called a Solutions Focused Approach. Or maybe it’s a combination of those, plus Motivational Interviewing, Play Therapy, and Mindfulness Exercises.

The important thing for you to know, is that I am dedicated to finding what is most comfortable and beneficial to you and your concerns. Together, we can help you feel more in control of your emotions, your behaviors, and your life. We can help you return to a place where you feel you have more to give, instead of being at your wits’ end. A place where you know yourself and how to utilize that knowledge to live a happier, more fulfilled life. A place where those issues from the past have been resolved and you feel free to move forward.

I’m already excited to start!

Feel like you want to know a little more about me? Here’s my professional…and personal...background!

With nearly 20 years of professional experience and more than twice that of life experience, I have served a wide variety of clients in several different capacities. I have been a counselor to children, teens, and their families, a parent educator to new parents and their children, as well as a special education teacher to children with severe emotional disturbances. Not to mention, I have 3 grown children of my own and have experienced many of the parenting issues that come up, first hand!
